Our sustainability journey

Climate Active

Climate Active is an Australian Government-backed program that provides a certification for businesses and organisations that have achieved carbon neutrality.

The program is managed by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and is designed to encourage and recognise businesses that are taking proactive steps to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.

The Process

Climate Active is the most rigorous and credible carbon neutral certification available in Australia today.

To become certified, businesses must undergo a rigorous assessment process annually that includes calculating their greenhouse gas emissions, being indepdently audited, developing a carbon management plan, implementing strategies to reduce their emissions and offsetting their emissions.

Our offset projects

Good Groceries offsets 100% of their carbon emissions through Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), with over 70% of those invested in the Karlantijpa North Savanna Burning Project.

  • KARLANTIJPA NORTH SAVANNA BURNING PROJECT

This project was developed in 2015 with the support of the Central Land Council and Traditional Owners of the Karlantijpa North Aboriginal Land Trust. The project covers 3000 square kilometres of remote grassy woodland with a history of hot, late dry season fires that have historically impacted the environment and neighbouring pastoral leases.

  • BIG CREEK REGENERATION PROJECT

This project is in the QUILPIE SHIRE local government area. This project establishes permanent native forests through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources (including rootstock and lignotubers) on land that was cleared of vegetation and where regrowth was suppressed for at least 10 years prior to the project having commenced.
